Cygnal Technologies installs enterprise-wide VoIP system at Luscar Ltd.
Advanced telephony system connects 10 remote mining locations
Nov 3, 2005
MARKHAM, ONTARIO, Nov 3, 2005 – Cygnal Technologies Corporation (TSX:CYN) announced that it recently completed the implementation of a sophisticated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony system throughout Luscar Ltd.’s 10 Canadian locations. In addition to being easier to use, manage and upgrade, the new system will eliminate long distance charges and reduce telecommunications line costs by more than half at Luscar’s mining sites. The project generated approximately $500,000 of revenue for Cygnal.
Luscar required a single telephony solution to replace the disparate and aging phone systems that connected its Edmonton head office with its remote mining sites. The company wanted to take advantage of modern technologies to reduce its total cost of ownership and improve employee productivity across the enterprise.
With its expertise in both data and voice networks, Cygnal was able to perform a detailed analysis to confirm that Luscar’s existing data network could support a robust VoIP system, thereby leveraging the client’s existing communications investment. Cygnal designed and installed an enterprise-wide telephony system based on the Avaya S8500 server. The 10-location system essentially operates like a single-site platform – consistent with Avaya’s strategy to “flatten and consolidate” the management of infrastructure.
Luscar technical staff can now administer the entire system from a single location. All applications are centralized, allowing for easier and more cost-effective upgrades to keep the system current as new technologies are developed. For the first time, traveling employees will face the same user experience at every Luscar location.
